Jesus Master, Center of Pauline Spirituality
Jesus Master, Way, Truth, Life is the essential
pivot of the Pauline spirituality, that is, of this "mode," of this
"way," through which God comes to us and we walk as a community, as a
Church, toward God.
Fr. Alberione, Founder of the Pauline Family, repeats
often in his writings: "The Pauline Family aspires
to live integrally the gospel of Jesus Christ, Way, Truth and Life" (AD
93). "Piety is especially and continually nourished with the study of
Jesus Christ Divine Master, who is Way, Truth and Life" (AD 97). Alberione
also describes it this way:"In understanding and teaching the various
subjects it is necessary that the studies always be more intimately known
by us and that Christ be formed fully in our mind, will and heart: thus
we will become expert teachers.because we have first been humble and diligent
disciples of Christ." (AD 98).
Alberione, who was always in search of a slogan or phrase
which could condense the richness of his spiritual life and the urgency
and radical nature of the message he intended to offer the persons of
his generation, finds here, in this understanding of Christ Way, Truth,
and Life, an amazingly strong point. He sees here the means of grasping
Christ in a total manner, to be able to give him to the whole person,
whom he sees as composed of mind, will, and heart. He envisions here a
solid synthesis of Christian truth: worship, morality, and life.
All of this needs to be internalized, taken on as one's
own. It means becoming disciples, reproducing Christ in ourselves, allowing
ourselves to be formed in the image of the Father - who is Christ - in
order to become in turn, for the people of the third millennium, "icons
conformed to the icon"-as St. Athanasius loved to say. We can attempt
to transform into richness everything that we have suggested above and
discover the beauty of the synthesis of Fr. Alberione, whether as a way
of life or as a form for mission.
