Sr. Ancilla Christine Hirsch
Toward the end of March I was asked by my congregation if I would be willing to move to Germany to be part of the German delegation of the Daughters of St. Paul. There are fourteen of our sisters in Germany, in four cities, with four book centers. The request came as a huge surprise to me. I spent several days praying about it...and all I found in my heart was a resounding YES. It really seemed like the call for me to follow, so I have accepted the request. On August 8, I left the US, and my first stop will be Italy. I'll stay there about three months or so, to study Italian since this is the universal language of Paulines throughout the world. Of course I'll also need to study/learn German. I've begun that already, and plan to continue studies when I get to Germany. In Germany, our sisters live in: Nürnberg, Ingolstadt, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf. I will probably be living in Nürnberg. There is no "term" to this transfer. If I love it, it could be for the rest of my life...unless I have a reason to ask to live again in the U.S, or am asked to move to another country. I am very joyful and at peace regarding this transfer, even though I also have my share of anxieties about it. All the goodbyes were difficult to say. Germany is, however, the land of my ancestors, and that makes it quite interesting to me. Chances are that I'll get there and feel a great connection on some deeper level. I'll need that, since on many other levels I'll feel disconnected, as you can imagine! Please keep our sisters in Germany and our mission there in your prayers! Sr. Ancilla
