When were the Daughters of St. Paul
founded?
At the turn of the century, our founder, Fr.
James Alberione was moved by the Lords invitation from
the Eucharist: "Come to me, all of you." He felt called
to use the modern means of communication to bring all of humanity
to Jesus Christ. In 1915 he founded the Daughters of St. Paul, along
side the Society of St. Paul, to proclaim the Gospel to the farthest
ends of the earth.
What is the ministry of the Daughters of St. Paul?
Our mission of evangelization challenges
us to bring the Gospel everywhere with the various forms of media:
books, music, radio, software, CD-ROM, audio and video tapes, Pauline
Book and Media Centers, media and catechetical workshops, Christian
music seminars for youth and evangelization outreach in homes, schools
and parishes. We are an international congregation of 2,600 women
religious serving Christ and the Church in 53 nations.
How would you summarize their spirituality?
The goal of our spirituality is that
of St. Paul the Apostle ".. the
life I live now is not my own, Christ is living in me." To
help us reach this union with Christ, our life encompasses:
-- a daily Hour
of Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament
-- community participation in the Mass
-- an additional half-hour of personal prayer for all the professed
sisters
-- meditation
-- morning and evening prayer
-- monthly and annual retreats
-- valued periods of silence.
What does a young woman do if she feels called?
After a young woman has spent time in prayer, discernment, and
has grown in her knowledge of the community, she may wish to make
an application for entrance into the Daughters of St. Paul.
The formation program consists of two years of postulancy, two
years of novitiate, then five years of temporary vows, at the end
of which the Sister makes perpetual profession of the vows.
