1. What is the tenth commandment of God?
The tenth commandment of God is: "You shall not covet your neighbor's goods."

You shall not covet your neighbor's house...or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his ass, or anything that is your neighbor's (Ex 20:17).

2. What did Jesus say about the tenth commandment?
Jesus said:

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be too (Mt 6:21).

3. What does the tenth commandment require of us?
The tenth commandment requires that we be satisfied with what is ours and respect the possessions of others.

4. What does the tenth commandment forbid?
The tenth commandment forbids greed, avarice and even the desire to obtain unjustly what belongs to another. (2534, 2536)

Those who want to be rich fall into temptations and snares, into many foolish and harmful desires which plunge them into destruction and ruin. For love of money is the root of all evil (1 Tm 6:9-10).

5. What is envy?
Envy is a capital sin which produces sadness because of another's possessions and the strong desire to unjustly acquire them. (2538-2539)

Love is patient, love is kind, it is not jealous, does not boast, is not arrogant (1 Cor 13:4).

6. Is the sin of envy the same as feeling a desire for what is not ours?
The sin of envy is a deliberate act of the will, while a desire for what is not ours may arise from a spontaneous feeling which is not in itself sinful. These feelings should not be cultivated so as to result in envy. (2541-2543)

Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires (Gal 5:24).

7. What is poverty of heart?
Poverty of heart is a detachment from material goods and a disposition for the goods of God's kingdom. All one's affections, desires and efforts are set on God who is preferred above everything. (2544-2546)

So in the same way, no one who does not part with all his possessions can be my disciple (Lk 14:33).

8. What is our ultimate desire?
All our desires for goods and happiness point us toward the vision and blessedness of God, who is the true longing of the human heart. (2548-2550)

When everything is made subject to him, then the Son himself will be subjected to the one who subjected everything to the Son, so that God will be all in all (1 Cor 15:28).
