Rest Awhile and Be Consoled
Pray over words of Christ and Scripture.
Psalm 116
Alleluia.
I am full of love because the LORD listens
to my supplicating voice,
and because he turns his ear to me;
so throughout my days I will keep calling.
Mortal snares enmeshed me
the anguish of Sheol got at me,
and I met with distress and grief;
but I keep invoking the name of the LORD:
"O LORD, please, rescue my life!"
The LORD is gracious and righteous;
and our God is tenderhearted.
The LORD guards the simpletons:
I was a wretch, but he saved me.
Regain, my soul, your peace,
for the LORD has been good to you.
Yes, you have delivered my soul from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling.
I will go about in the presence of the LORD
on the earth where humans live.
I had faith even when I was saying:
"I am a victim of great oppression,"
when, as I was frightened, I was declaring:
"The whole of man is undependable."
How can I reward the LORD
for all the good he has done to me?
I will raise the cup of salvation
and invoke the name of the LORD.
In the presence of all his people
will I pay the vows I made to the LORD.
The death of his faithful worshippers
is highly valued in the eyes of the LORD.
Please, LORD, continue to untie my bonds
for I am your servant;
for I, your servant, am the son of your handmaid.
To you will I offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving
and invoke the name of the LORD.
In the presence of all his people
will I pay the vows I made to the LORD,
in the courts of the house of the LORD,
in your center, Jerusalem.
