Bomb", the ultimate online resource for the Theology of the
Body! Articles, Resources, Discussion Groups, and Testimonies.
"Christopher West’s keen grasp of John Paul II's theology
of the body and his ability to make it accessible to others is changing
lives, strengthening marriages, and renewing people's faith in the
Church across the country and internationally. He is on the front
lines of the new evangelization and his message should be heard
by all."

The following were the principal resources used in writing the
text for this site. Besides the links connecting you to other sites
for additional information, a number of these titles may be useful;
the majority of which are available from Pauline
Books & Media.
Books
Accattoli, Luigi. Man
of the Millennium, John Paul II, trans. Jordan Aumann, OP,
Pauline Books & Media, 2000.
"This concise, eminently readable biography….acquaints
us with [John Paul II] as a person as well as a world leader…"
(Mary Ann Glendon, Professor of Law, Harvard University).
Allen, Jr., John L. Conclave: The Politics, Personalities, and
Process of the Next Papal Election, Doubleday, 2001.
Written by the editor of the National Catholic Reporter,
this is a modern and intriguing look at the process of a papal election,
woven together with historical and "newsy" information.
Brief bios of the cardinals eligible for election and a summary
of church- and society-related issues which the College of Cardinals
and the new pope will face make it a good source for media professionals.
Foy, Felician A. and Avato, Rose M. 199 7 Catholic Almanac,
Our Sunday Visitor, 1997.
While more recent editions of the Almanac contain only
sketchy information on papal elections, this edition goes into much
greater detail, since Universi Dominici Gregis was issued
just the previous year. See pages 36-37.
Garcia-Cobb, Jo. John Paul II, Michael Friedman Publishing
Group, Inc., 1999.
Great for quick reference, information in this pictorial biography
is easy to spot, while insets develop related topics. It provides
a kind of outline of John Paul’s life, points of which can
be verified and amplified with the help of Accattoli’s bio,
Man of the Millennium.
Klein, Peter. The Catholic Sourcebook, Brown-Roa, 2000.
Pages 227-241 contain a treasure trove of things papal: terms,
including several Latin expressions, facts about the papacy through
the ages, and papal and episcopal paraphernalia.
Korn, Frank. Country of the Spirit…Vatican City, St.
Paul Editions, 1982.
The book is out of print, but pages 56-61, which recount many
fascinating details not found elsewhere about papal funerals, will
be useful to the media. Be advised that it does contain some inaccuracies
in other portions, and some election information is outdated due
to more recent legislation.
Weigel, George. Witness to Hope: The Biography of Pope John
Paul II, Harper Collins, 1999. Out of print. Available May 15, 2005
An exceptionally well researched and well written work about
an exceptional gift to our times.
Web Sites
www.osvpublishing.com/catholicalmanac/conclave.htm
A brief and very readable overview of the history of papal
elections. By the way, the Almanac is a good source for defining
Catholic terms.

The complete text in English of the apostolic constitution
Universi Dominici Gregis by John Paul II is indispensable
for those who want their reporting to reflect all the recent changes
in process and procedure in papal funerals and conclaves. It includes
descriptions of the roles of the Curia personnel during the interregnum
(the period of time between popes) and an explanation for the motivations
behind the changes.
Romano pontifici eligendo, by Paul VI. Brush up on your
Italian for this one; it’s unavailable in English. John Paul
II based his own regulations on the changes Pope Paul VI initiated
in this apostolic constitution. In case an Italian reading is out
of the question, Miller’s book, The Shepherd and the Rock,
covers the essentials.
