God's Spokesmen
Throughout the time of the kingship,
though Israel often forgot God, God did not forget Israel. God
spoke to his people through the prophets. The prophets were people
chosen by God to speak for him. The prophets' role was not to predict
the future, but rather to tell the people God's feelings about the
present. What made the prophets able to do that was their sympathy:
they were able to feel God's feelings.
