Chicken Run

Chicken Run is a funny claymation film. It is the story of some chickens in England who lay eggs for Mr. and Mrs. Tweed to sell. But then the Tweeds want to stop egg production and make chicken pies instead. An American rooster named Rocky shows up to help them escape, but he is not very trustworthy. By the end of the movie, though, the chicken characters learn to work together and to respect each other.

“Because all the chickens worked together, they had a chance to escape. If it wasn’t for teamwork, they wouldn’t have gotten their plane off the ground.”

—Charlie S., age 12

“I liked Ginger the best because she wanted all of her fellow chickens to learn how to be free. Ginger is very bright and very well-organized.”

—Brittney A., age 11

“I didn’t like it when Rocky left. I wish he had stayed and told the truth.”

—Diego P., age 11

“I wish the movie was animated. I just don’t like the clay.”

—Michael S., age 12

“What I liked most about this movie was the teamwork, loyalty, friendship, courage, and hope that the characters had. I learned to believe in myself and in others.”

—Sarah P., age 12

“From Chicken Run, families can learn that love, support and teamwork can conquer all.”

—Candice H., age 12

To do before the movie:

Name some television shows and movies that are stories about teamwork.

Look up “claymation” on the Internet to see how this technique is used to tell a story.

To do after the movie:

Act out your favorite scene in the movie and have your family guess which scene it is. Explain why you liked this scene.

Draw your favorite character from Chicken Run. Write the main thing you liked about the character on the paper, too, like loyalty or teamwork. Put in on the refrigerator for your family to see and talk about.
