Alfredo Ludovico Schuster

Alfredo lived at the time of the two terrible World Wars in the first half of the last century. He was born in Rome of a very poor family, but Alfredo wanted to become a priest no matter what. He became a Benedictine monk, and was eventually made Cardinal of Milan. Ludovico defended the Church against errors and many difficulties. He strove to shepherd his priests and people on their way to God. Even though he had many things to do as a Cardinal of the Church, he never forgot the poor and generously gave himself to all in need. Cardinal Schuster’s greatest wish for the people was that they would be holy, and several of the priests and people in his diocese are actually recognized for their sanctity. He died a peaceful death, after bidding his people farewell, not long ago in 1954. He was beatified in 1996.
