Blessed Otto Neururer Sometimes do you feel down? On these days, even if you had dreams of being someone great, nothing looks possible anymore. Well, I know someone you should meet: Otto Neururer. When he was a young boy his father died. His mother, who had to raise the family herself and run their small farm, often felt like giving up. Otto was quiet and sure didn't look like the hero type. When he grew up he felt the call of Jesus to be a priest. After Otto became a priest he taught religion and worked for justice in his native Austria. In 1938 the Nazi soldiers took over. Fr. Otto warned one of his parishioners about a certain man. This man turned out to be the friend of the highest Nazi authority. Fr. Otto was immediately arrested and put into a concentration camp. Although he was tortured, Fr. Otto still shared his food and his kindness with the others. After a lot of suffering he was hung upside down till he died. It was May 30, 1940. Fr. Otto didn't have a lot going for him, but that didn't matter. He made sure he made decisions to follow his conscience all through his life. He was beatified in 1996.
Fr. Otto taught others about God. He was courageous in telling others about Jesus. He shared the only food he had with others. Fr. Otto always listened to his conscience. Quote: "Fr. Otto is a witness to uncompromising loyalty to Jesus' teaching." Pope John Paul II
