Blessed Elizabeth
Canori Mora Take a minute and think of each of the people who live in your neighborhood. Can you call any of them a saint? Well one neighborhood in Italy really did have a saint living next door. Blessed Elizabeth Canori Mora lived a quiet life with her two children in Rome. Her husband had been very mean to her and had left her. Her first two children had died. She was very poor. She cared for her two daughters all alone, working many long hours. Elizabeth also prayed and cared for other poor people in the neighborhood. People knew they could come to her for things they needed or for spiritual advice and prayers. Little by little, not just people in her neighborhood but people all over Rome called her "the saint." Elizabeth offered the sufferings of her life to God. She loved her children very much and was determined to give them a good Christian education. Elizabeth died when she was 50 years old. She predicted that her husband would be converted. And she was right! Her husband eventually became a priest and a Franciscan. Elizabeth was beatified in 1994.
· Elizabeth was a good mother. Quote: "We praise mothers who are ready to make any effort, to face any
sacrifice, in order to pass on to their children the best."
