The Sacrament of Reconciliation

What’s with this confession thing, anyway? So many adults don’t go, so why should I? I didn’t kill anyone. So what’s the point of going to confession?

Oh, yea—confession. (Also called the Sacrament of Penance or Reconciliation.) One of the toughest acts of religion we Catholics are involved in. So why bother? Most of the sins are between us, the devil & God—hidden things—bad thoughts, lying, cheating in school, disobeying. No one knows but "me." Well. Not so. Every sin affects the whole Church! Ever think of that? Even you, as young as you are, affect the whole Church. So Jesus, knowing how weak we are, gave us a way of being forgiven by him in a special Sacrament. The priest we talk to is Jesus. That priest can never tell anyone what is told to him in confession. We should be grateful to be forgiven by God. So, yes. It’s a challenge to be honest with God and ourselves, but Jesus is there for us. This sacrament is a gift from Heaven.
